Our Team
My Name is Luz C. Marzan.
I was born in Dorado, Puerto Rico, to parents of Puerto Rican descent. I am the oldest of three. My family moved to Manhattan, NY, when I was two years old.
My first years of school were at P.S. 168 in El Barrio (104th Street), where I was always doodling in my notebook the flowers that my dad used to draw for me. I later attended the JHS Jackie Robinson 13, also in El Barrio, where my first art classes began. My teacher, Mrs. Able, was a great inspiration (other than my dad, of course), and because of her, I took the entrance exam to the High School of Music and Art. I remember it well. The butterflies that I felt in my stomach felt like bees. Mr. Acceta was the teacher overseeing the examination. I thought it went well. I had to wait to find out whether I was accepted or not. Guess what? I was.
After I graduated, that was the last time that I used a pencil, brush or paint. Then I met Ray. It is because of Ray (Raymond Langley) that I began to paint. 100+ paintings later, we are now building Un Poco de Luz, where both his art work and mine can be looked at and/or purchased.
